ex. I got a dui almost 5 years ago, will an insurance company look at my record from the past 5 years or longer? How many years from your dui do they hold it against you?

it depends on the insurance company but it runs from 3-5 years before they stop charging you a premium rate–check around with different insurance companys and ask-i hav found by going to an independent agency that handles and represents many different companys is the best way to go–they will look at your record and find the best company for your situation and needs

For automobile insurance the quick way to get a low quote is do a policy comparison on car policies. Make certain that you choose similar options with the same limits, car model, location, etc so that all options are a good comparison.
What I usually recommend is an internet comparison quote at http://www.InsureAutoNow.info since they have discount insurers and can give several quotes on car insurance polices.

It all depends on the state you live in. In Florida it stays on your record for 5 years, In Alaska it stays on forever, and in Massachusetts it stays on for 10 years. So you can see how it varies. If i were you i would just call my insurance company and ask them!
Most companies surcharge you 5 years for a major violation such as: DUI, reckless op, etc.
You should see a big difference the first policy renewal following the 5 year anniversary date of the DUI. If the anniversary date is in the middle of your policy term I would request that your agent rewrite you policy prior to the renewal date. If you don’t you will be paying a surcharge even though your DUI has been longer than 5 years.
Also I would check out now some of the following links. They provide free quotes that could help you bring your premium down.
